We recently visited Met Museum during our last visit in NYC. The Greek and Roman Art Galleries have many fine collections of jewelry on display. Aaand I have found my favorite piece in the Greek Gallery. It’s a pair of bangles and I can see myself wearing this.
This crystal bangle (ca. 330-300 BC) is from the Genymede Jewelry Collection. It has wire bindings with rams’ heads on each end with intricate details of three friezes, darts, grapes, palmettes with pointed leaves, and beaded wire as borders. I am sure there are other details I have missed. The design is just complex.
This bangle is believed to have been excavated in Macedonia before 1913.
They have a massive display of jewelry and its a bit overwhelming. Here are a few more photos of what’s on display. I hope you like them.
